A singular story does not do any justice, to the human diversity of existence nor to the plurality of human imagination. India has always had stories being told and retold in myriad ways through Performances, Puppets, Parables, Parchments and Paintings and in a way the whole tradition of Indian art and literature is linked to the telling of stories and the ways in which stories are told. Living Stories is an exploration of a few storytelling traditions of India, all woven around the words and thoughts of authors, philosophers and storytellers from around the world. From the powerful rendition of Pandavani to the vibrant hues of Yakshagana, from the Mystic Baul singer to the wandering bard or the Kavad, from the intricacies of a Kathakali performance to the delicate strokes of the Kalamkari, the film showcases the essential truth about India — That the antiquity of our traditions is as remarkable as its continuity.
